a couple of great gigs....

a couple of great gigs....

my my my, did i ever see a couple of great gigs earlier this week. it
all started monday night when Vikki and i went to see the amazing
Icelandic band Múm
(the picture on the left, above). it was such a creative/incredible
concert, i love it when bands push the boundaries as to what is
expected of certain types of music. i mean, their use of instruments
from a Moog to a saw to a vibraphone was soooo impressive and to do it
in a way that it all fit together perfectly. if any of you have not
heard them, please go to your local music shop and pick them up or
check them out on iTunes.

the second gig i went to was Rufus Wainwright (the picture on the right, above),
one of my personal favorites. i saw him last october at Shepherds Bush,
a medium sized venue, and he had his whole band there; brass, back-up
singers and all. this time he was at the Islington Academy, a smaller,
more intimate venue, so he only had a limited band.... which was quite
alright. he did quite a few off of his new album Want Two (which was
supposed to be out here monday, but it has been pushed back, so the gig
wasn't really a release party as was intended) and also quite a few off
of his prior two, Poses and Want One. he is definitely one of the best
singer/songwriters there is today, if any of you like music at all, you
must own at least two of his albums. i suggest you start out with
either Poses or Want One (in my opinion, Want One is superior to all of
his).

anyway, check out these two musicians, you definitely won't regret it.
