Arena is out.... thank goodness

i read on the internet that Bruce Arena's contract is not being renewed as coach of the US National Soccer Team. this does not surprise me at all given their performance in the World Cup. there was no word as to who would replace him. i had heard speculation of Juergen Klinsmann being a possible replacement, seeing as though he lives in LA and is close friends with Arena, but i highly doubt that given Germany's relatively well performance in the World Cup. i will be very interested to see who they choose to take the post.

redneck romance novel

so i was driving around today, supplying the city of Cedar Falls with all the important local and world-wide news. i was listening to NPR, as is normal practice whilst i am at work, and they had a story about a new novel that will soon be out on the infamous Harlequin publishing house, known for sappy romance drivvel. this new book, however, entitled 'In The Groove' and written by Pamela Britton, is entirely different from anything ever published by Harlequin. The difference? this romance novel is set entirely in the world of......... wait for it........ wait for it....... NASCAR. i almost drove off the road when i heard this and the subsequent dramatic reading of a small portion of the novel; i could barely see through the tears. there's nothing like a little redneck romance to get your motor started (pun intended).

what a shame

so the World Cup is over and all of Italy has tremendous cause to celebrate. i was actually pulling for France in the final, that is, until Zidane head-butted Materazzi in the chest; what a dirty play. now, i'm sure Materazzi wasn't completely innocent here, i imagine he said some incindiary words for Zidane, but give me a break. its such a shame he chose to go out on this sort of note, the end to his ilustrious career being an incredibly unsportsman-like assault on another player.

how am i going to fill my time now? life is going to be so boring now that the World Cup is over...

graffiti

i was at work on saturday, driving around Cedar Falls and came upon this little bit of political defiance....

how politically savvy the malcontents are around here.

how disappointing/new place

you may have noticed its taken me a few days to post again after the heart-breaking defeat of England by the Portuguese. to be fair, i don't think England played nearly to the point that i know they can and Portugal simply played better (especially their goal keeper). anyway, watched the Italy v. Germany today.... what a crazy game. its interesting to me how two teams can go 119 minutes wihtout making a goal and then one of the teams score two goals in two minutes (119' and 120'); what a wild sport.

France v. Portugal? go France! i would love to see a France v. Italy final.

i have moved into a new apartment and i am now a resident of Cedar Falls. its cool to have roommates too, it got boring/lonely to live by myself for 5 months. its very nice being so close to work, saving me 20-30 minutes driving time a day. however, it seems i still manage to make a trip to and from Waterloo nearly everyday... maybe i haven't saved a ton of time in the end.

happy 4th everyone, i hope you have a good one.

penalty kicks

and it goes to penalty kicks....

with the defibulator at my side, i hold my breath and hope the three lions come out on top.

bull@#%$

ok..... its the end of regulation time in the England v Portugal and OT play is about to start; its total crap. i cannot f-ing believe that Rooney got a red card for the inadvertant step on the Portugal player.... give me a shitting break. if anything, at the most, he should have gotten a yellow card.

so, its about to start, Rooney and Beckham-less. God save the team.
