put yourself in their shoes.... literally

i was reading a blog i regularly read today and they had a link to this website called simsweatshop; its very interesting. basically its a game in which you are a worker in a sweatshop and must work hard putting together sports shoes and trying to make the daily quota.... if you don't, your pay is docked. its a very eye-opening 'game'. maybe it'll actually cause us to start caring about people who really live in those situations......

Thee Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band

went to Minneapolis yesterday to see Thee Silver Mount Zion in concert. this was my second time seeing them, i am fortunate to say (the first being in London). it was an absolutely amazing show, the music was beautiful/sad/apocalyptic with a slight glimmer of hope shown now and then. the 'lead' guy, Efrim, isn't the greatest singer in the world, but his brand of slightly off key pleading seems to suit the music just fine. at delightful moments, the rest of the band joins in and sings choral-style with him; sheer magic. they were nice enough to play a couple of their new songs, 'Blind, Blind, Blind' and 'One Million (People) Died To make This Sound'. the highlight of the night for me, was their playing of 'Ring The Bells, Freedom Has Come and Gone', which ended in a violent tornado of sound which seemed to last for hours.... it was friggin great. the venue, The Varsity, was really cool. they had risers set up along the wall on both sides of the floor, which were lavishly decorated in big oriental rugs, candle-lit tables and chairs, and incredibly comfortable sofas/armchairs. i was fortunate enough to sit comfortably in one of the armchairs, it was as though i was being treated to a private concert, right in my living room. it was possibly the best venue experience i've had. please check their music out here if you have never heard them.
